A pop-up restaurant experience that sold out in minutes last year has announced new dates for summer 2022.

Last May, when hospitality in Wales was still restricted to ‘outdoor opening only’ restrictions, one of Cardiff’s most popular restaurants found a creative way to keep business going; Recommended by the Michelin Guide to Victoria Park Corner moved the kitchen and dining area into a beautiful 12 x 10m expandable tent on the bank of the River Taff.

With enough space for up to 35 socially distant guests, ‘Nook by the River’ allowed guests to dine and drink by the water, sampling seasonal small plates and sipping on a selection of natural wines. Before and/or after their reservations, customers were also able to enjoy a drink on the terrace of the Llandaff Rowing Club, located next door.

The ‘Nook by the River’ pop-up proved so popular that table reservations for the entire four-week residency last year sold out within minutes of going on sale – sparking a frenzy of social media comments from customers hoping to take the place of very last-minute cancellations.

The good news is that the pop-up will return to the same location this summer, with sessions available to book From Wednesday to Sunday, of July 13 until August 7. Online reservations will go live at 10 a.m. on Monday 13e June at www.nookcardiff.co.uk/nookbytheriver.

The founders of Nook, Phill & Deb Lewis (who also own and operate a sustainable Kindle restaurant in Cardiff city center and Dusty’s Pizza restaurants in South Wales) said the response to the l Last year had been so positive that they felt they had no choice but to bring him back for a second year.

Phil said: “Even as we packed up the temporary kitchen last year, we knew we’d bring Nook by the River back – but this time (hopefully) the weather will be even better! It’s great to be working with Llandaff Rowing Club again, and the location really is the perfect setting for the style of food we like to serve at the Nook.

While the ‘Nook by the River’ pop-up is in full swing, the restaurant in Victoria Park will also remain open for reservations.
