Downtown Disney’s fan-favorite Earl of Sandwich store, which has been repeatedly hung up at Disneyland’s outdoor mall, has once again been spared despite a fateful date with the wrecking ball earlier this year.
A new pop-up Earl of Sandwich location at Downtown Disney will open in the coming months between the old ESPN area and the old Rainforest Cafe.
Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock announced Earl of Sandwich’s return to Downtown Disney during a State of Disneyland Resort presentation on Wednesday, April 27 at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater.
Disneyland is working with the Orlando-based sandwich franchise on a pop-up location in Downtown Disney as a short-term solution to temporarily satisfy fans of the beloved sandwich shop.
The Earl of Sandwich restaurant was demolished in February along with AMC Theater, Starbucks West and Sugarboo and Co. as part of Downtown Disney’s west end renovation.
The Rainforest Cafe, AMC Theaters, ESPN Zone, Earl of Sandwich, and one of Downtown Disney’s two Starbucks locations closed to make way for a 700-room Disney Hotel that was eventually canceled in 2018. Disney unplugged the Downtown Disney 2021 planned. hotel after Anaheim eliminated a tax refund deal worth $267 million for the company.
Earl of Sandwich and West End Starbucks stores have finally reopened in their former Downtown Disney locations after the hotel project was halted – only to be closed again and demolished as part of the latest renovation.
It is not yet known if a permanent Earl of Sandwich location will be part of the renovated Downtown Disney project.
