Ex-con reveals what awaits Ghislaine Maxwell behind bars

Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell have called for her to serve her 20-year sentence at FCI Danbury, a minimum-security federal prison in Connecticut that housed a Real Housewife and hip-hop star — and inspired the Netflix show “Orange Is the New Black.

And the inmates are ready and waiting for the notorious sex criminal.

“She will be around six to eight months,” Jacqueline Polverari, who spent less than a year in Danbury for mortgage fraud, told the Post.

“I have already received emails from women who have written to me that they ‘heard Maxwell is coming this way’. They are preparing for her arrival, already asking that they don’t want her in their dorms And the camp counselor won’t put Maxwell where she’s unwanted, lest she get hurt.

“Danbury will not be a picnic for Maxwell,” she added.

Maxwell, who was found guilty of conspiring with her billionaire pedophile boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse young women and girls, would likely be ostracized by other prisoners and abused herself.

Ghislaine Maxwell will soon begin her 20-year prison sentence for conspiracy to abuse young women with Jeffrey Epstein.

“Women are worse than men [prisoners convicted of] sex crimes,” said Polverari, who was at Danbury in 2015. “You have mothers there. They see a white woman accused of a sex crime and they think any of their children could have been her victim. She [Maxwell] would get a lot of flak. She would get shit beat up multiple times.

Polverari, who now leads Evolution Reintegration Services, a Connecticut-based company that helps women reintegrate into the community after serving a prison sentence, began her prison sentence the same day as ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey’ star Teresa Giudice, who was sentenced to 15 months for fraud. in 2015.

“Whether [Maxwell] is smart, it will hire a consultant to set it up with people on the inside,” Polverari said. “Teresa Giudice had that. She had a mentor set up inside. Someone was waiting for him. She had a mentor who walked her around, someone to tell her she was off limits.

But it can backfire on you.

“People were looking at Teresa, like, ‘Who the hell is she? She’s hiring someone and now we can’t talk to her directly? didn’t instantly like Teresa,” Polverari said. “It was like she thought she was better than everyone else. Women can be mean. It took a few months before her big mouth got her into humiliating situations. On the phone, she was heard saying, “Prison is hell. Other prisoners asked, “Who is she to say that?” Then they started taking pictures of her without makeup or hair extensions.

At Danbury, which has just over 1,000 prisoners, Maxwell would occupy an 8ft by 8ft cabin with a bunk bed and two lockers.

“There are 30 cabins in each dorm,” Polverari told the Post. “The dormitories have no locks or bars… You are never handcuffed.”

Maxwell’s days would likely start with breakfast, served between 5 and 7 a.m.

“Sometimes there were maggots in the oatmeal,” Polverari said, adding that Maxwell could be assigned to janitorial work, cleaning the toilets until 11 or 12 a.m. before the lunch break.

“On Monday she can have beef tacos, corn and an apple,” Polverari said. “But the women steal all the apples to make booze. Getting an apple is impossible.

Vegan Maxwell has complained about “inedible” food at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. At Danbury, Polverari said: ‘There is no vegan or vegetarian menu. She will have to eat like everyone else.

The prison offers higher quality kosher meals than the standard menu, Polverari added, but women who choose this without religious restrictions often feel hot: “It makes people even less like you. [if you get kosher food] because you get something that very few people get.

Still, jail would be a step up from the MDC, where Maxwell filed more than 100 complaints in the 22 months she spent in solitary confinement, her brother Ian Maxwell told the Post.

“Frankly, getting out…of MDC hell has to be a top priority,” he said.

If she gets her way, however, Maxwell will eventually be transferred to a prison in the UK. His brother Ian told the Telegraph that there is a “programme allowing foreign nationals to serve their sentence in the country of their nationality”.

The final say on where Maxwell will serve his sentence will rest with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which will conduct a lengthy assessment of what type of facility would be suitable for such a prestigious prisoner.

“They will do a custody and security classification on her,” said Larry Levine, the founder and director of Pink Lady Jail Consultants, a company that offers pre-detention counselling. “This is from the Bureau of Prisons Designation and Sentencing Center [DSCC] in Grand Prairie, Texas. It will be classified and kept in custody. It is based on things like the seriousness of the offence, the degree of threat it poses to the public, the length of its sentence and its criminal history. Those are the… main things.

Both Levine and Polverari said BOP was unlikely to recommend Danbury, which hosted Lauryn Hill – the Grammy-winning hip-hop entertainer served three months in 2013 for tax evasion – and the wife of billionaire businesswoman Leona Helmsley, who was convicted of tax evasion and fraud in 1989. The New York hotelier served 18 months at Danbury from 1992.

For Piper Kerman, being in Danbury turned out to be a very good deal. The Smith College graduate was arrested for smuggling drug money and served in the Connecticut camp for 13 months beginning in 2014. Her experiences there inspired ‘Orange Is the New Black’, which has was released as a bestseller in 2010 and became a hit Netflix series three years later.

The two consultants said Maxwell may end up serving his sentence at West Virginia’s FCI Hazelton, a medium-security prison, because of its higher levels of separation and protection for inmates. “There she would be locked in a cell,” Levine said.

“She doesn’t have a popular crime,” Levine said. “People will try to get her out. They will try to kick his ass. [Prison officials] want to take her into custody at Hazelton. If someone from the outside is paying someone who has a relative in prison, maybe someone who is already serving a life sentence, they could put a sheet over their head, sharpen a toothbrush and stab that bitch.

“Can you imagine the uproar if she gets killed?”
