The policy allows bars in the city to remain open until 8 a.m. after the owners pay the excise department an additional fee of Rs 20 lakh per year.

Pubs and restaurants serving alcohol in Gurugram will now be able to remain open 24/7 as the Haryana government has announced a new alcohol policy.

The new liquor licensing policy, announced on Friday, will come into effect from June 12 and will thwart Delhi’s excise policy that was issued in November, under which bars and restaurants serving liquor alcohol can stay open until 3 a.m., according to a report by the Hindustan Times.

The policy allows bars in the city to remain open until 8 a.m. after owners pay the excise department an additional fee of Rs 20 lakh per year, according to excise officials.

The Delhi government had approved the new excise policy in November last year, allowing restaurants to operate hours until 3 a.m. in line with the operating hours of NCR cities including Gurugram and Noida. . The nation’s capital is preparing to allow bars in the capital to serve alcohol until 3 a.m.

The new policy in Gurugram is also likely to lower alcohol prices as excise duty and value added tax on the sale of alcohol have been reduced.

“We tried to make politics user-friendly so that more people could start their operations in the city. Gurugram is growing and more and more malls and commercial spaces are springing up here. People will now have more options to open pubs, bars and restaurants,” VK Beniwal, Deputy Commissioner for Excise and Taxation, Gurugram (East) reportedly said.

The report said bar or restaurant owners who wish to continue closing their establishments at 2 a.m. can continue to pay the annual retail liquor license fee of Rs 18 lakh.

Officials say they hope to receive more than 150 applications this time. There are a total number of 276 existing licenses in the city.
