Manipur government bans trucks loaded with sand from Nagaland without documents

Imphal: In an effort to curb the illegal entry of trucks loaded with sand from neighboring Nagaland into the state, the Manipur The government has warned that trucks carrying sand from Dimapur will either be seized or fined under the Indian Forests (Amendment) Act 2018 and Manipur Forestry Rules 2021, if the vehicles do not have not the relevant documents.

A notification issued by Kangpokpi Divisional Forestry Officer (DFO) N Ganesh said many trucks transporting sand from Dimapur to Manipur transit without the required public transport pass, bypassing forest offices along the Imphal-Dimapur highway, resulting in loss of revenue for the public treasury to the tune of Rs 3 lakh per day.

The notice further directed the relevant authority to pay the required fee and transit fee to avoid any legal action in the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi Forestry Division.

Any vehicle found entering the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi Forestry Division without valid documents will be seized and composed/confiscated as per the existing provision of Indian Forests (Amendment) Act 2018 and Manipur Forestry Rules, 2021, warned DFO Ganesh.
