Imphal: Manipur police on Thursday seized several gold bars and arrested a gold smuggler at Pallel checkpoint in Kakching district.
The information was shared by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Facebook.
According to CM Biren Singh, the crackdown on illegal activities took place around 10:30 a.m. along Imphal-Moreh road by Kakching police commando unit and arrested one person along with 18 gold bars weighing 2.988 kg during of an excavation.
The arrested person was identified as Prakash Kshetri, 23, s/o Ratan Kshetri from Ward No. 8, Moreh in Tengnoupal District.
The seized gold bars were recovered from a van hidden under the step of the left door. And each gold bar weighs about 166 grams, he said.
Further investigations are underway to find where the gold is.
