A 26-year-old man gave himself up to police at Orkney Police Station in the North West after he allegedly killed his girlfriend by strangling her.
Police spokesman Stephen Thakeng said the suspect told police he argued with his girlfriend and strangled her.
He then hid the body under a bed in their house at Thabong in Welkom.
Thakeng says officers went to the address and found the naked body covered with a quilt under the bed.
The deceased had a swollen eye and strangulation marks on her neck.
Police said the suspect was released on bail, following a rape charge last month.
The suspect will soon appear in Welkom Magistrate’s Court.
The murder of a nurse
Iris Mohokane, 47, had recently been promoted to facilities manager at the Ipelegeng Clinic. She was reportedly murdered, just two days after assuming her new role.
Sambatha called the killing devastating and called on communities to protect women.
“We want to call the police and say that they must do everything to find those who were involved in this murder of her, and we want to call out to the community that we must keep an eye on our emergency personnel at all times. Those that are essential services should be protected by anyone in society because we need them.
A man who was arrested for the alleged murder appeared in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate’s Court.
