A POPULAR pop-up restaurant for over five years is about to open its first permanent location in the Stretford Mall.
Stretford Canteen, the brainchild of Dean Taylor and Josephine Sandwith, is due to open on Chester Road in late spring.
Inspired by Beaujolais, the iconic city center restaurant run by Jo’s parents in the 70s, 80s and 90s, Stretford Canteen offers British and European dishes from local and sustainable sources.
There will also be a wine list with a focus on France, but with highlights from across Europe.
All in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which will be hosted by Dean and Jo themselves, as well as by their daughter Eve.

Dean said the restaurant was a dream come true after a much longer-than-expected pop-up spell.
He said: “We have always dreamed of opening a restaurant. We thought we could have established ourselves earlier in Stretford, but the pandemic has slowed things down.
“Now we are delighted to join a brilliant community in Stretford and look forward to welcoming the neighborhood to our new permanent Stretford canteen.”
Also on the agenda at Stretford Canteen are supper clubs, the special evening dining experiences on which the restaurant based its early success.
Jo said: “We’re really excited to bring our own local version of fine dining to Stretford.
“Brilliant food doesn’t have to be stuffy. Stretford Canteen was built around the warm, welcoming and relaxed dining experience I grew up with.
“It’s about sharing great food and wine with family and friends in a home-style neighborhood restaurant.”
James Tootle, Head of Retail for Bruntwood Town Centres, which owns Stretford Mall in partnership with Trafford Council, added: “We are delighted to welcome Stretford Canteen to Stretford Mall.
“Dean and Jo have built something truly special. They are at the heart of a strong and passionate food community in Stretford and we are delighted to be able to help bring their vision to life.
“As a talented local independent with something unique to offer, Stretford Canteen embodies exactly what we want to bring to the town center as part of our vision to create a thriving, community driven high street and a future exciting for Stretford.”
