Last weekend, my daughter, Willow, and I joined our longtime friends Heather and Rick for a special dinner inside the former location of The Lab restaurant**. Another friend of ours, Lynne, sat at the table with us. This dinner was the culmination of 4 months of interactive lessons that taught children aged 10 to 18 how to successfully run a restaurant, create menus and learn to prepare and serve the dishes they imagined as a group. .

The menu the kids came up with was a 3 course meal. It included all kinds of gourmet dishes, including lamb pho, flank steak, matcha lava cake, salad made with shredded Brussels sprouts, ground pork wontons, cream cheese wontons . My favorite dish was the baked salmon! When I tell you these kids showed up and showed up, I mean it! My salmon was flaky, well done and delicious to my palette! I still want it a few days later! Willow is always thrilled with ground pork and water chestnut wontons with roasted sesame soy dip! They were appetizing and succulent.

My daughter really wants to attend this class. We had applied last year but as I mentioned earlier, only 15 students are chosen from all the applicants. Hopefully she will be accepted into the next set of classes!

Kids will be encouraged to try and eat foods they’ve never eaten before, so Willow might have a slight problem with that, as you can see in the pictures below. She is one of the pickiest eaters I have ever seen in a child! Hahahaha! I’ll give him credit for at least trying to eat a bite of the flank steak. She complained that her steak was “medium rare” and then had the nerve to beg me to leave her some of my salmon instead. Audacity! 😂

May I introduce you to Willow’s 7 stages of worrying about trying something new! His facial expressions cracked me up!

After scrolling through Willow’s photos, I’ll give you a special scoop on Yakima’s new restaurant, Eats and Elixirs!!
